Students, Faculty, and Family Attend SPICE’s Annual Security Dinner

8/30/2019

On Wednesday, August 28th, the Security and Privacy in Informatics, Computing and Engineering group hosted its Annual Security Dinner. Each fall, this highly anticipated event celebrates the dedication and tireless efforts of faculty, students, staff, and researchers from the SPICE team and other visiting departments. Held at FARM Bloomington, more than 50 participants enjoyed a variety of delicious and eclectic foods, drinks, and company.

As a team building effort, attendees introduced themselves, shared an abbreviated core of their work, and their future research directions to one another. This dinner serves as a vibrant way for individuals to meet the new members of the cohort, cross-pollinate between lab teams, as well as to catch up with those whom have been away for the summer. Project Manager, Joshua Streiff, explains,

SPICE is a large cross disciplinary group of faculty and researchers doing work in a wide variety of fields with their intersection at the points of security and privacy. It is important for the entire center to hear what we are all working on, in order for us to coordinate and synergize over the coming academic year. It also serves as an opportunity to invite our new students and faculty who are just joining our research family.

SPICE has 7 professors, over 50 graduate research students, and yearly hosts a large number of undergraduate research associates. Dining at the sustainable and vintage-inspired FARM, attendees are able to meet students and faculty with whom they are not normally in direct contact.
